Privacy Policy | PeekMD asks for one permission: clipboard

Last updated: June 1, 2026 · Effective: June 1, 2026

PeekMD does not collect, transmit or analyse your content. There is no account and no backend: documents and clipboard text are rendered on your device only. The single permission we request is clipboard access, used solely to preview what you just copied — auto-detection can be turned off in settings.

We value your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how PeekMD handles your information.

1. Information We Collect and Use

1.1 Core Service and Local Processing

PeekMD is a Markdown and HTML preview tool. All text, files, code, and web links you view or edit through the app are parsed and rendered locally on your device.

  • We do not upload your document content, code, or links to any external server.
  • We do not maintain a cloud database to collect, analyze, or store your document content.

1.2 Clipboard Usage

To help you preview quickly, PeekMD checks the system clipboard once when the app enters the foreground.

  • Read condition: The app prompts for import only when the clipboard contains Markdown markers (such as #, ##, **, ```) or HTML markers (such as <html>, <body>, etc.).
  • Local storage: Clipboard content is loaded into the app only after you explicitly agree to import it, and is stored solely on your local device. We never send clipboard data to any cloud or third party.

1.3 Share Extension and Inter-App Communication

When you use PeekMD's Share Extension from other apps (such as Messages, Safari, Files, etc.):

  • Shared files or links are temporarily extracted in the App Group container on your device and passed to the main app through a local JSON cache for preview.
  • This data transfer is completed entirely offline on your device and does not involve any external network transmission.

2. How We Store Your Information

  • Storage location: All your data (including preview history and settings) is stored only in the local sandbox and App Group shared directory on your iOS device.
  • History cleanup: You can delete individual records by swiping in the History screen, or clear all history with the trash button. Once cleared, all locally stored history is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

3. Third-Party SDKs and Services

  • The app does not integrate any third-party advertising, tracking, profiling, or behavioral analytics SDKs.
  • The app does not connect to any third-party payment, social sharing, or other external SDKs that may collect your personal information.

4. Protection of Minors

We take the protection of minors' personal information seriously. The app does not collect any personally identifiable information and is suitable for users of all ages. If you are a minor, please use the app under the guidance of a guardian.

5. Updates to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be published within the app or in the public code repository.

FAQ

Does PeekMD need a network connection?
No. Parsing and rendering run locally, so the app behaves identically in airplane mode. Network is only used by the App Store when you download or update.
Where does my clipboard content go?
Nowhere. It is read into memory to render a preview and released when the app closes; nothing is persisted or transmitted.
Do you embed ads or analytics SDKs?
No advertising SDKs and no behavioural analytics are embedded, so there is no device identifier collected for targeting. See section 3 for the authoritative list.
What happens when I delete the app?
Everything goes with it — storage is local, so there is no cloud copy left behind to recover.
